Why Choose the Open Trip Lombok to Komodo Cruise?
The open trip format is the most popular way to experience the Lombok to Komodo sailing route — and for good reason. You share the boat with 8 to 15 like-minded travelers from around the world, splitting costs while gaining the same extraordinary experience as a private charter. It is the ideal choice for solo travelers, couples, small groups, and budget-conscious adventurers who want to explore Komodo National Park without chartering an entire vessel.
Our open trip boats depart every week during peak season (April through October) from Kayangan Harbor in North Lombok. The route covers approximately 370 kilometers eastward through the Flores Sea, passing through Sumbawa’s volcanic coastline, the whale shark waters of Saleh Bay, and the remote islands of the Komodo archipelago before arriving in Labuan Bajo, Flores.
Unlike budget operators who cut corners on food and safety, our open trips maintain strict quality standards: licensed captains with 10+ years experience, full safety equipment on every vessel, freshly prepared meals three times daily by our onboard cook, and professional snorkeling gear included at no extra charge. We are part of Juara Holding Group, one of Indonesia’s premier tourism ecosystems — your safety and satisfaction are backed by corporate accountability, not a one-man operation.
4-Day Itinerary: Lombok to Komodo Open Trip
Day 1: Lombok → Kenawa Island → Moyo Island
Depart Kayangan Harbor at 11:00 AM after a safety briefing and crew introduction. Your first stop is Kenawa Island — a tiny paradise with powdery white sand, turquoise shallows, and excellent snorkeling right off the beach. After lunch on board, continue east toward Moyo Island, home to a protected nature reserve with pristine coral gardens. Anchor for the night in a sheltered bay as the sun sets over Sumbawa’s volcanic peaks. Dinner is served under the stars on the open deck.
Day 2: Satonda Island → Saleh Bay (Whale Sharks) → Gili Banta
Wake to calm waters and fresh breakfast. Morning stop at Satonda Island, a volcanic crater island with a mysterious saltwater lake surrounded by dense jungle and fruit bats. Continue into Saleh Bay where, between March and September, whale sharks gather to feed on plankton — swimming alongside these gentle 8-meter giants is an experience that defines a lifetime. After lunch, sail toward Gili Banta for afternoon snorkeling among colorful reef fish and sea turtles. Anchor overnight near the Sape Strait.
Day 3: Padar Island Sunrise → Komodo Dragon Trekking → Pink Beach
The highlight day begins before dawn. Hike to the summit of Padar Island — one of the most photographed viewpoints in all of Indonesia — to watch the sunrise illuminate three crescent bays in different colors: turquoise, white, and pink. Return to the boat for breakfast, then sail to Komodo Island or Rinca Island for a ranger-guided trek through the natural habitat of Komodo dragons. Afternoon at Pink Beach, where the sand glows a rosy hue from crushed red coral — the snorkeling here is among the best in the Komodo archipelago. Evening anchored near Komodo Island.
Day 4: Manta Ray Point → Kanawa Island → Labuan Bajo
Early morning snorkeling or diving at Manta Ray Point — one of the world’s premier manta ray sites where these majestic creatures glide through cleaning stations year-round. The visibility here often exceeds 20 meters, offering unforgettable underwater encounters. Final stop at Kanawa Island for relaxed swimming and farewell snorkeling over vibrant coral gardens. Arrive at Labuan Bajo harbor by early afternoon, giving you time to catch an evening flight or explore Flores. Transfer assistance available to Labuan Bajo Airport (LBJ) or local hotels.

Open Trip FAQ
What is an open trip Lombok to Komodo?
An open trip is a shared sailing cruise where individual travelers, couples, and small groups are grouped together on one boat to share the 4-day journey from Lombok to Labuan Bajo via Komodo National Park. You share common areas and cabins with fellow travelers while splitting the overall cost, making it significantly more affordable than a private charter while following the same iconic route.
How many people are on the open trip boat?
Our standard open trip boats carry 8 to 15 guests plus 4 to 5 crew members (captain, co-captain, cook, and deck hands). Premium boats carry a maximum of 10 guests for a more spacious experience. We never overload our vessels — the maximum capacity is set by maritime safety regulations and we enforce it strictly.
Where does the open trip depart from?
All open trips depart from Kayangan Harbor (Pelabuhan Kayangan) in North Lombok, approximately 2.5 hours from Lombok International Airport and 1.5 hours from Senggigi. We offer free pickup from Senggigi, Mataram, and Bangsal areas. If you are coming from Bali, take the fast boat to Bangsal and we will pick you up from there.
Is the open trip suitable for solo travelers?
Absolutely — solo travelers make up about 40% of our open trip guests. The shared format is perfect for meeting fellow adventurers from around the world. Most solo travelers tell us the social aspect was a highlight of their trip. Cabin assignments pair travelers of the same gender unless you request otherwise or book a private cabin upgrade.
Can I do the open trip in reverse (Labuan Bajo to Lombok)?
Yes, we operate both directions. The Labuan Bajo to Lombok route follows the same itinerary in reverse and is equally spectacular. Some travelers prefer this direction as it ends in Lombok with easy connections to Bali. Contact us for the reverse trip schedule and availability — it runs on alternating weeks with the standard eastbound departure.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety is our top priority. If sea conditions are deemed unsafe by the captain, the itinerary may be adjusted to alternative sheltered stops, or departure may be delayed by a few hours. In rare cases of severe weather warnings, trips may be rescheduled with a full refund or date change offered. During peak season (April–October), weather disruptions are uncommon and most trips proceed as planned.
