There is no single direct boat from Lombok to Komodo — here is how every realistic route actually works, with honest times and costs.
Komodo Island lies roughly 370 km east of Lombok, across the Flores Sea and past Sumbawa. There is no direct ferry or speedboat — you either join a multi-day sailing cruise or connect through Labuan Bajo. For most travellers, a 4-day liveaboard cruise is the most rewarding way to go.
The standard route is a 4-day, 3-night cruise departing from Kayangan Harbor in North Lombok, with extended 5–7 day options available. Expect anywhere from around $350 up to $3,500+ per person depending on the comfort level of the vessel.
This is the option where the journey becomes the destination. Boats stop at six to eight islands — typically Kenawa, Moyo, Padar, Pink Beach and Manta Point — with meals, snorkelling gear, park permits and guided activities included.
If time is short, fly from Lombok International Airport (LOP) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) on Wings Air or NAM Air in about one hour, then join a Komodo day trip with a roughly 2-hour boat transfer.
Total cost lands around $80–$200. Best for travellers with two days or less who still want to see the dragons and a few key islands.
The ultra-budget route runs Kayangan Harbor to Poto Tano, overland by bus across Sumbawa to Sape Harbor, then onward to Labuan Bajo. It costs roughly $25–$35 but takes two to three days of travel.
Only worth it if your schedule is very flexible and your budget is very tight — comfort and scenery are minimal.
A private speedboat charter covers the distance in roughly 8–10 hours direct, carrying four to eight passengers. Prices start around $3,000+ per boat. Ideal for small groups who prioritise speed and privacy over island-hopping.
Most cruises leave from Kayangan Harbor in North Lombok. Approximate transfer times:
Free shuttle service is usually available from Senggigi, Mataram and Bangsal.
Komodo National Park now caps entry at 1,000 visitors per day and requires advance booking through the official SiORA app. Padar Island is limited to 60 visitors daily, and licensed rangers are mandatory for trekking. Walk-up entry is no longer guaranteed — reputable cruise operators handle SiORA registration for you as part of the package.
