A Premier First Stop

Kenawa sits just 12 kilometres off Lombok’s northern coast, about 45 to 60 minutes by fast boat from Senggigi Beach. The island is roughly 500 metres across, with a crescent-shaped beach of powdery white sand and turquoise shallows.

A short walk up the grassy central hill rewards you with a panoramic view over the surrounding sea.

The Snorkelling

The Snorkelling

Shallow coral gardens of Acropora and Porites surround the island, with visibility usually between 15 and 25 metres. Most snorkelling sits in 5 to 15 metres of water, with a maximum around 15 to 20 metres.

Expect sea turtles, schools of tropical fish, and macro life such as nudibranchs, seahorses and octopi.

When to Visit

When to Visit

April through October offers the best conditions with calm seas. The driest months of May to September are also ideal for overnight camping on the island.

Avoid the December to March monsoon, when seas are rougher and visibility drops.

Beach and Camping

Beach and Camping

The white-sand crescent and shallow turquoise water make Kenawa a relaxed beach stop as well as a snorkelling site. Optional island camping can be arranged with tents, meals, fresh water and guides.

Camping requires advance booking and is best in the dry season.

Respecting the Ecosystem

Respecting the Ecosystem

Use reef-safe sunscreen only, wear reef shoes and never step on coral. Do not collect shells or touch wildlife, and keep a respectful distance from sea turtles.

Snorkel with a buddy and watch for sea urchins in shallow areas.
