What to Pack for a Lombok to Komodo Cruise

A complete, category-by-category checklist for a 3–7 day tropical sailing trip — pack light, pack smart.

In Short

Cabins are small and the equatorial sun is intense. The winning formula: one rolling bag plus a backpack, quick-dry synthetics over cotton, serious sun protection, and reef-safe products only. Here is the full checklist.

Clothing & Footwear
01 Chapter

Clothing & Footwear

Choose quick-dry synthetics or merino — cotton holds saltwater. Cruises are casual, so leave formal wear at home.

  • 4–5 quick-dry shirts and 3–4 quick-dry shorts (no denim)
  • 1–2 lightweight pants and 1–2 light resort-wear pieces
  • 5–7 underwear, 2–3 pairs socks, 1 light sweater
  • 2–3 swimsuits and 1–2 UPF rash guards
  • 1 packable rain jacket
  • Water shoes/reef sandals, hiking boots for island treks, casual sandals
Sun Protection — The #1 Priority
02 Chapter

Sun Protection — The #1 Priority

Sunburn is the most common complaint from unprepared cruisers, and the sun reflects hard off the water.

  • 2–3 bottles reef-safe sunscreen SPF 50+ (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide)
  • Wide-brimmed hat (3-inch brim minimum)
  • 1–2 pairs UV400 sunglasses (polarised recommended)
  • SPF lip balm and after-sun lotion or aloe vera
  • A long-sleeved light shirt for peak sun (10 AM–3 PM)

Chemical sunscreens with oxybenzone or octinoxate are prohibited in Komodo National Park — they harm coral at tiny concentrations.

Water & Snorkelling Gear
03 Chapter

Water & Snorkelling Gear

  • Snorkel set — bring your own for a proper fit
  • Waterproof phone case and a dry bag
  • Optional 1–2 mm wetsuit for warmth and UV protection
  • Dive socks or booties
  • Optional: GoPro/underwater camera, anti-fog spray
Electronics & Documents
04 Chapter

Electronics & Documents

Keep documents and medication in your carry-on.

  • Phone, charger and a portable power bank (essential)
  • Universal adapter (Indonesia uses Type C plugs)
  • Passport with 6+ months validity, plus a photocopy
  • SiORA park permit screenshot or printout
  • Travel insurance documents (print and digital)
  • Cruise booking confirmation and printed emergency contacts
Medications & Health
05 Chapter

Medications & Health

Seasickness affects 30–40% of cruisers — bring more than one remedy and take it preventatively.

  • Full supply of prescription meds plus 2–3 extra days
  • Pain relievers, antihistamine, anti-diarrhoea, antacid
  • Seasickness: Dramamine/Bonine, ginger, Sea-Bands, optional scopolamine patch
  • First aid kit, antibiotic ointment, blister and bite treatment
  • DEET or picaridin repellent; feminine hygiene products
What NOT to Bring
06 Chapter

What NOT to Bring

Banned under park rules: single-use plastics, glass containers, chemical sunscreen, drones, fishing gear and weapons.

Impractical on a boat: heavy or multiple suitcases (one rolling bag under 50 lbs is ideal), formal clothing, full-size books, full-size hair dryers, more than three pairs of shoes, and excess electronics or makeup.

Pack Smart

Seven Quick Rules

The essentials, distilled.

01

Pack Light

One rolling bag under 50 lbs plus a daypack — cabins are small.

02

Sun First

Reef-safe SPF 50+, brimmed hat and UV400 sunglasses.

03

Synthetics

Quick-dry fabrics over cotton — saltwater stays wet in cotton.

04

Seasick Kit

Multiple remedies, used preventatively before you sail.

Ask a Question
01

How much luggage should I bring?

One rolling carry-on under 50 lbs plus a medium backpack and a small daypack. Cabin storage is limited, so avoid multiple or oversized suitcases.

Only reef-safe mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Chemical sunscreens containing oxybenzone or octinoxate are prohibited.

A passport valid 6+ months plus a photocopy, your SiORA park permit, travel insurance documents and your cruise booking confirmation. Keep these in your carry-on.
05
