Daily visitor caps, mandatory digital permits and reef protection — everything that changed, explained simply.
From 2026, Komodo National Park enforces a strict cap of 1,000 visitors per day across all zones, with advance booking required through the official SiORA app. Reputable cruise operators handle SiORA registration and permits for you — but here is what every rule means.
A hard limit of 1,000 visitors per day now applies to all zones and all visitor types, including cruise passengers and day-trippers. Walk-up entry is no longer guaranteed, so pre-booking is essential.
Every visitor must book through the official SiORA app. The process is:
Without a valid permit, rangers will not allow you to disembark — you are turned away at the marine boundary.
Visitors are distributed across three fixed daily windows of roughly 330 people each:
Slots are fixed and cannot be changed on arrival day; changes must be made at least 7 days ahead and may incur fees.
Padar Island: capped at 60 visitors daily in one-hour slots; stay on marked trails, no swimming from the island.
Komodo Island: a ranger is mandatory for all visitors (about 750,000 IDR / ~$48 per group of up to 10); stay within 10 metres of your ranger, no solo walking.
Rinca Island: rangers strongly recommended; multiple trails of 1–3 hours, generally less crowded.
Marine zones: Pink Beach, Manta Point and Coral Gardens need no extra permit — but no coral touching, no fish feeding, and keep 3 metres from mantas.
Fees may rise annually and are confirmed at the time of booking.
Strictly banned: single-use plastics and glass, sunscreen with oxybenzone or octinoxate, spearfishing and fishing gear, drones, fireworks, weapons, and collecting shells or coral. Disturbing, feeding or chasing wildlife is forbidden, as is off-trail hiking. Commercial filming and camping require special authorisation.
These measures protect a fragile ecosystem home to the world’s only Komodo dragons, vast coral reefs and unique marine life.
